PSD AND LAYOUT TESTING

A PSD file is a format, not proof

A search for “fake PSD” can mean an editable mockup, a fictional design or an imitation identity document. For software testing, the useful part is the controlled layout and known text. You can test both without copying government artwork.

What an editable file tells you

PSD is Photoshop's native layered format. Layers help a designer edit separate elements; they do not establish who issued the content or whether its claims are true. A flattened export also says little about the file's editing history. Adobe: raster, vector and PSD file formats

Keep editing convenience separate from provenance. For a QA asset, record who created the original layout, which values it contains and what behavior it is intended to test. Those details make the experiment reproducible without making the sheet resemble identification.

Match the asset to the test
RequirementSuitable fixtureWhat it cannot establish
OCR text extractionAn original page with known labels and valuesAuthenticity of identity evidence
Reading orderThe same regions arranged in a different sequenceSupport for a particular government's layout
Missing-field handlingA sheet with one intentionally absent fieldWhether a real applicant supplied sufficient evidence
Design editingAn original composition with named layersLawful issuance or a right to impersonate an issuer

Three original sheets, one narrow experiment

The following SVG sheets use an abstract page layout. They contain no portrait, official emblem, barcode, signature or machine-readable zone. Every field is marked FICTIONAL / NOT VALID. The manifest lists the text you should expect from each region. These are OCR fixtures, not PSD files or replicas of identification.

Measure an extraction result

  1. Save the manifest with the three sheets. Record your OCR product, version and configuration.
  2. Rasterize each sheet at the same dimensions if your OCR system does not accept SVG. Record the renderer and output dimensions.
  3. Run each sheet separately. Keep the raw text and the field mapping as distinct outputs.
  4. Compare the expected field strings first. Then inspect whether the reordered sheet changes the field mapping or reading sequence.
  5. For the missing-name sheet, check that your application reports absence rather than silently carrying a name over from a previous record.

This experiment varies layout and field presence. It does not measure blur, glare, printing, document coverage or fraud detection. We have not run the sheets through an OCR engine and report no recognition score. A small fictional dataset cannot support an identity-verification accuracy claim.

If you need a layered design

Use the same abstract field plan in your own original design. Keep the fictional statement in the header, body and exported image. Maintain a record of the text and region order you expect to extract. Do not import an issuer's passport or license layout to make the test look convincing.
